After a merger, a major oil and gas company found it was left with multiple trading systems, which were not well coordinated and supported only limited types of trading. Process Mapping and Development initially consists of gaining a detailed understanding of a company’s processes, such as: activities that articulate the objectives and value it brings to the company; the assignment of responsibilities; the standard of completion for each process; and the flow of products and information between individuals and departments within an organization, as well as external entities (partners, competitors, government regulators, etc.). The purpose is to uncover bottlenecks and inefficiencies in the current system and find creative ways to improve those processes for enhanced productivity and efficiency. This often involves a change management effort, as employees are often asked to do things differently than they have been done in the past.
