The petroleum industry has a proud history of developing technology capable of exploiting reserves in increasingly harsh surface and downhole environments. Despite these considerable accomplishments, it has been documented that the speed of technology acceptance is slower in the petroleum sector than in a number of other industries. As exploration continues to focus on even more challenging environments (e.g., high pressures, high temperatures, deep water, and extended reach applications), the need for advanced technology to successfully exploit hydrocarbons will only escalate.
